**Mike Hogan & "Neko"

1 - Lester Anderson & “Sonny” - East St. Louis PD
2 - Michael Mojzis & “Bobo” - O’Fallon PD
3 - Greg Casem & “Dan’O” - Ferguson PD
4 - Vince Mullen & “Sonya” - Ferguson PD
5 - Kirk Ainley & “Taz” - Jefferson County Sheriff

** Mike Hogan & " Neko " IL State Police – Dist 11

Due to the fact that Neko’s work involved an on-going case, the details can not be revealed. Needless to say, Neko is not the type of dog who lets punching and serious eye gouging deter him from getting and holding his suspect. We are please that he is fully recovered from the eye injuries.

2. CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE DETECTION

**Jason Totel & "Kohl"

1 – John Wilson & " Ronja " - Maryland Heights PD
2 – Dave DeGonia & " Greta " - Kirkwood PD
3 - Mike Hogan & " Neko " - IL State Police 4 - Kirk Ainley & " Taz " - Jefferson County Sheriff

** Jason Totel & " Kohl " Fairview Heights PD

We have another instance of an on-going case which prevents us disclosing details. It can be said that because Kohl’s sense of smell is at a higher level than ability of suspect to hide controlled substance from him; illegal drugs worth in the area of 6 figures never reached their destination.

3. EVIDENCE DETECTION

**Scott Gurley & "Rocky" Madison County Sheriff

Rocky is being honored for two incidences in this area. In one instances after an armed robbery, Rocky discovered the hiding place of the assault weapon used in the crime as well as the clothing worn. In the second case, a man with a gun began following a woman and her children in his car. She called 911 and drove to the Sheriff’s office. When the suspect realized where he was, he fled. Scott and Rocky located and pursued the fleeing car. When apprehended, there was no gun but an open passenger window. Rocky then back tracked along the route in the grassy ditch. He detected the gun, a crack pipe, and a piece of apparel that were all evidence.

4. TRACKING

**Michael Robertson & "Nick"

1 –Dave DeGonia & " Greta " - Kirkwood PD
2 - James Lansing & " Sari " - Monroe County Sheriffs Dept.
3 –Michael Monticelli - & " Onyxx " Hazelwood PD

** Michael Robertson - & " Nick " St. Louis City P.D.

We are again honoring Nick for four of his tracking cases this past year. In one instance, he tracked a violent suspect who had fled and was hiding in bushes on a highway exit ramp. Again, Nick tracked a fleeing suspect who was originally armed and who had fled officers and hid under boards at a vacant residence. On the third track on a typical St. Louis August day, Nick tracked through alleys and to a yard full of abandoned autos, one of which was the suspect’s hiding spot. In the last case, Nick had to track when a fellow officer attempting to apprehend a fleeing suspect lost communications. Not only did Nick find them struggling, he took over the apprehension in the alleyway where the suspect’s loaded weapon was later located.

5. PROTECTION

**Michael Monticelli & "Onyxx"

1 –Lester Anderson & " Sonny " - East St. Louis PD

**Michael Monticelli & "Onyxx" Hazelwood PD

K-9 Onyxx is being honored today a couple of instances in which his very presence afforded his handler and other officers protection. In one case, three potentially armed suspects were involved in a domestic assault. Because Onyxx was there, his handler was able to secure all three suspects. Another responding officer arrived to assist in the search of the suspects. Onyxx stood as a deterrent against the occurrence of any problems. In another case, the mere threat of Onyxx’s presence, made a suspect decide that the path of least resistance was to surrender without incidence.
